Starting a shell command by clicking an icon on Mac OSX

From folder /Applications/AppleScript/ start Script Editor.app. There enter the line:

do shell script "<shell_command>"

Then save your AppleScript by selecting "application" as file format.

Example:

do shell script "/Applications/Thunderbird.app/Contents/MacOS/thunderbird-bin
                  -P /Users/my_user/Library/Thunderbird/Profiles/my_profile"

would start Thunderbird email client program with a non-default profile.
